In another phenomenal example of the benefits of reaching outside of architecture to inform the built environment, dO|Su Studio Architecture exhibits the intersection of biology, chemistry, and design. Utilizing her background in biology to contribute to her architectural philosophy and approach, Doris Kim Sung delivers one of my favorite TED talks to date about metal alloy design. Thermo-bimetal research met with intricate modular and parametric design breaks ground on a new wave of architectural construction methods and is certainly a branch of field research to keep an eye on.
