In 2014, I had the great opportunity of attending the annual AIAS Forum in Nashville, Tennessee where I attended an eye-opening lecture from Jimenez Lai. Lai is an architectural anarchist defining new limits and directions of investigating design through unconventional methods, using various media such as sketch, sculpture, art, comic book narration, storytelling, and much more. His work with Bureau Spectacular takes viewers on a unique exploration through revolutionary design methods and philosophies, and showcases a whimsical and fantasy-like perspective of industrial and architectural design. I often describe his work as a design playground, an amusement park for ideas of material, object, color, form, and utility. Through well-articulated constructions of art and architecture, Bureau Spectacular showcases eccentric interpretations of the world around us.
