‘If you looked at it from a hard-nosed financial position you wouldn’t do it. It would be taking me away from designing buildings,’ says Nick Burwell. ‘It’s a question of how much love you’re prepared to put into something, and love is free.’
‘It’s really a labour of love, a tribute to the building, because there is no money for the interiors, the building absorbs everything. But if you love the building, you do something for it.’ - Doriana and Massimiliano Fuksas.
Industrial design has always been a branch of creative discipline in which I've been interested. Luckily for me, there are fantastic precedents of architects trying their hand at industrial design, taking on the weight of additional work in order to fulfill creative vision, improve performance, and advocate for a design philosophy. This wonderful article discusses duo-disciplinary designers with great insight to the concerns and perspectives of those with some experience in reaching across the table. Just another example to prove that truly intuitive and innovative creators can communicate fluently across many languages of design.
