When I first discovered this piece by designer Lebbeus Woods, I was immediately in love with the narrative that jumped out at me - concepts of perseverance, human progression, discovery, deviance and dynamism - and all of these ideas were perfectly in sync for a project I was working on at the time. I shared it with my design team - we wanted something that expressed distortion of familiar forms and the ethereal. Woods works very consistently with this fragmentation and destruction of geometry in efforts to achieve dynamic sculptural forms, and is also very famous for his intricate architectural illustrations. Beyond admiring the overall sculptural form, the distorted pentagons that punch through and leap out from the solid rectangular planes can easily start to drive information for a parametric design in an architectural work.
